Inspired by Love’s in Need of Love Today by Stevie Wonder, this original abstract painting by London artist Kate Mayer explores love, human connection and the power of music to bring people together.

During lockdown, Kate met with members of her choir in a park. After so much time apart, they could not resist singing together. As their voices rose through this much-loved song, passers-by began to stop and gather. At a time shaped by isolation and uncertainty, its message seemed to express something everyone was feeling: a deep need for love, compassion and connection.

Kate painted from the memory and emotion of that moment, translating the warmth of the collective voices and the spontaneous gathering into colour and movement. This sound-led abstract painting is a reminder that even during difficult times, music can draw us together, and love is never more important than when it is needed most.
