Afterglow

Inspired by Afterglow, an original poem written and performed by Elle Dillon-Reams, this original abstract painting by London artist Kate Mayer explores memory, shared experience and the unexpected connections created through music.

The first time Kate listened to the poem, she cried without fully understanding why. Perhaps it was the memories it stirred, its power to transport her back in time, or the connection she felt with Elle through her words. At its heart is the dance floor: a place where music can dissolve the distance between strangers and, for a moment, make everyone part of the same experience.

Kate painted while immersed in Elle’s voice, translating its emotion and imagery into colour, texture and movement. This sound-led abstract painting celebrates the people, places and moments that stay with us long after the music has ended.
