Unfinished Sympathy

Inspired by Unfinished Sympathy by Massive Attack, this original abstract painting by London artist Kate Mayer captures the enduring emotional power of a song that has stayed with her for more than 30 years.

When Kate first discovered the track, she played it repeatedly, drawn back again and again to the feeling it created. More than three decades later, it still leaves her with the same unmistakable afterglow. While creating this painting, she returned to that ritual, allowing the song to play on repeat as its rhythm and emotion found their way into the colour, texture and movement.

This sound-led abstract painting explores music’s ability to collapse time and reconnect us with feelings that never entirely leave. It is a celebration of the songs that become part of us and somehow never lose their power.
