Inspired by As by Stevie Wonder, this original abstract painting by London artist Kate Mayer captures the colour, joy and lasting emotional energy of a song that holds a special place in her life.

The song is a favourite to perform with Kate’s choir, but she has also had the pleasure of seeing Stevie Wonder perform it live on three separate occasions. Each experience left its own afterglow, and the track now carries layers of memory, the excitement of the performances, the collective energy of the audience and the joy of singing it herself.

Painted while fully immersed in the music, Kate translated those memories and emotions into expressive colour and movement. This uplifting, sound-led abstract painting celebrates the songs that become woven into our lives and can transport us back to moments of pure joy whenever we hear them.
