Brighter Day

Inspired by Brighter Day by Kirk Franklin, this original circular abstract painting by London artist Kate Mayer explores the uplifting power of music, even when its words do not entirely reflect our own beliefs.

Kate initially resisted the song. As a non-religious person, she felt uncomfortable singing lyrics so explicitly rooted in Christianity. Yet, as often happens with her choir repertoire, the more she sang it, the more she came to love it. The joyful melody, collective voices and hopeful words consistently left her feeling better.

Painted while immersed in that energy, the work reflects the freedom of receiving what a song gives without needing to interpret it literally. Bright and life-affirming, it celebrates music’s ability to lift the mood, shift our perspective and help us imagine a brighter day.
