I Smile

Inspired by I Smile by Kirk Franklin, this original circular abstract painting by London artist Kate Mayer captures the contagious energy of one of the first gospel songs she ever learned.

Kate used to sing it to her sons whenever they were in a bad mood, or particularly annoyed with her. However determined they were not to respond, a smile would eventually appear, followed by them joining in. The song became a playful way of breaking through tension and finding their way back to one another.

Painted from those memories, the work translates warmth, humour and joyful family connection into expressive colour and movement. This uplifting, sound-led abstract painting celebrates the small moments that shift how we feel and reminds us that sometimes a smile really can change the energy between us.

Measuring 30cm in diameter, the painting is presented in a bespoke, handmade float frame, making it easy to bring original art and feel-good energy into almost any space.
