Inspired by Lovely Day by Bill Withers, this original circular abstract painting by London artist Kate Mayer captures the effortless joy of a song that never loses its power to make her feel good.

Kate also performs Kirk Franklin’s version with her choir, giving the song another layer of personal meaning. It even played an unexpected role in her love story: her future partner first saw Kate singing it in a video and decided he had to meet her.

Painted from the happiness, warmth and possibility the music awakens, the work translates its uplifting energy into expressive colour and movement. This sound-led abstract painting celebrates the songs that brighten our mood, connect us with others and make an ordinary day feel full of promise.
