Afterglow

Afterglow is a painting-led collection exploring the embodied trace of fully felt experience.

Each work begins in full immersion with sound, which Kate Mayer uses to enter the emotional state she wants to paint from. Through colour, movement and layered surface, the paintings hold the trace of those felt states and invite a slower, more sensory encounter.

The collection explores presence, connection, resonance, warmth and emotional recall, asking what painting can hold long after a fleeting experience has passed.

At the centre of Afterglow are three collaborative works created in dialogue with a poet, a musician and an immersive sound practitioner. Each offers a different route into the emotional field from which the paintings emerge, while the painting remains the central artwork.

Afterglow invites you not simply to look, but to sense, pause and return.
